On a Mission!

Literally…I’m going on a mission trip to Macedonia. Macedonia?! Where is THAT!? Macedonia is a country in Europe (see map). The fact that I’m going on a mission trip isn’t really what I wanted to write about today. What I want to write about is how God is using me there. I’ve been on an international mission trips twice – both times to Guatemala. In Guatemala we fed the poor, loved on the orphans and rescued babies, worked on constructing a new hospital, and just generally lent a helping hand.

So when the opportunity came about to go to Macedonia, I was super excited…thinking I’d be doing some of the same things. (Because that is what you think about when you hear mission trip, right?) Before jumping on the “yes” wagon though, I prayed thoughtfully about it…wanting to make sure that God wanted me to go and that it wasn’t just me selfishly wanting to go. So, I asked God to please make it very clear to me that He wanted me to go.

When the call came to give me information on the trip, I listened intently to what we’d be doing. About two minutes in to the call, I heard the words that were meant specifically for me. “We’ll be helping a local church with marketing and technology.”

Now…most of you reading this know me…but I know some of you do not. For those of you who don’t….my passion is….marketing with technology. So there it was. Clear as a bell. I smiled, looked up and thanked God. He, as always, was directing my path.

So this trip will be A LOT different than the others. But, I’m ready for it and I know God will show up in amazing ways. Because, He always does.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come anad pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

Tune In!

If you want to hear God more often, then make it easy for Him!  Listen to Christian music, subscribe to blogs, devotionals, talk to other Christians, etc.  God uses all these things to speak directly to you.  I was reminded of this last night.

I wasn’t having a very good evening.  I was lonely.  I was missing my son terribly.  And what was I doing?  Sitting on the couch reading a James Patterson novel flipping back and forth on the tv watching nothing worth talking about!  Finally, I decided to take a bath (which is where I like to just soak and pray – TMI, I know – sorry!)  Anyway, I didn’t blast Christian music (which is also what I like to do as I soak and pray) but instead just soaked and prayed and I admit, cried some.  😦

When I got out, I decided to catch up on some of my devotionals and what was the first devotional I read?  “If you want an antidote for loneliness, here it is:  You will never be separated from God’s love….You will never be lonely because you can tune into God’s love.”  (Thank you Daily Hope with Rick Warren!)

I realized that I hadn’t been reading my daily bible readings, listening to Christian music, or spending much time at all with the One who loves me the most.  Duh.  No wonder I was feeling blue!

I grinned up at God, said “got it!”, he said “good” and I immediately felt better.

All Things are Possible!

I just finished the book, FEARLESS by Eric Blehm.  It’s the life story of Adam Brown who overcame drug addiction to become a Navy Seal.  It’s an amazing story of faith and family and I was moves so much by it!  I highly recommend it.  In fact, I recommended it to a friend, who read it and said “it’s a good book, but I didn’t get as much out of it as you.  He [Adam Brown] had a lot of strings pulled for him.”

Hmmm…..I felt a little heartbroken.  Surely he grasped the foundation of the story!   I mean, in my opinion, the story really wasn’t about how he got in the military but rather, how by faith all things are possible.  I thought that maybe I missed something and that maybe because my friend was in the military that he had some inside scoop that I did not.   Then, I read day 18 of my Bible reading plan, Matthew 13:1-35.  The disciples asked Jesus why he talked in parables and Jesus’ response was basically another parable!  He said, that God’s messages are like seeds and that unless the seed falls on good soil, they will not understand it- the seed will just fall through the crack or be blown away.  If the seed falls on good soil, it will root, and produce a crop.

How eye opening!  But how do you make your “soil” good?  I believe it has to do with faith.  Faith to believe that God is who He says He is and that He can do anything.  Including “pulling strings” for Adam Brown to become a Navy Seal.  Because, as they say, with God…all things are possible!

Journey Anyone?

Guess what?  You are going to go on a journey with me!  Yup.  I’m committed to reading the bible in a year!  I’m on day 8 of a year-long bible reading plan.  And let me tell you – I love it!  However, I have so many questions.

In Matthew 5:18, Jesus says this: “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”  Ummm, I thought heaven was eternal?  What’s this about heaven disappearing?

And here’s my second question… in Matthew 5:7, God says “Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”  Just who is “us” God is referring to?

Nothing will shake my faith, but I am curious about the two passages above.  If you have any insight, please share!  Otherwise, I’ll read on and hope more answers than questions will unfold.

New Beginnings.

I love new beginnings.  So many people look forward to a new year to “start over”.  Personally, I look forward to every DAY.  Because every day is a chance to begin again.  I’ve said that so many times to my son, to friends, co-workers, etc.  For some reason, when we fail or dissapoint ourselves or others, we tend to get an attitude that we will never change.  And that’s so not true.  We can change, it just takes practice – and will-power!

I actually changed a lot of things in 2012, and one of them is that I listen almost exclusively to christian radio.  Every morning when I wake up, I crank up Klove.  Every day on the way back and forth to work – KLove.  And I’ve noticed a huge difference in the way I feel throughout the day by starting each day with such uplifting music.

For 2013, I plan to continue on my journey and be a better person – the kind of person that God wants me to be.  I’m not sure where my path will lead, but I do know that I control a lot of it by the choices I make.  And if one day, I make a bad choice – I know that every day is a new chance to begin again!

The Thoughts We Think

I woke up with a major headache this morning.  My bf says it’s from thinking too much, which is a realistic possibility.  At any rate, I was not singing along as normal at church this morning – it just hurt too much.  So, I decided to close my eyes and imagine what it would be like in heaven.  I pictured a bright white light all around me… full of warmth, like the sun I love so much in the summer.  Yes!  That would be so awesome!  My next thought of what it would be like in heaven was….”jeans that fit.”  lol.  Seriously. That was my immediate next thought of what it would feel like in heaven.  Ohhh to have jeans that fit – wouldn’t that be heavenly!

After that thought, I couldn’t concentrate on anything else “heavenly”.  I was a bit appalled at of all the things I could have thought about, it would be the comfort of pajama pants or some other “non-buttoning” apparel.  Clearly I was not as focused as I should have been.  So, I decided I’d try that again after I was home, in comfortable clothes, so I would not be distracted again.  🙂

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Be Happy!

Every day you have a choice to be happy.  Most days, for me it’s easy!  Some days though…some days….are not so easy.  Anxiety, worry, stress, etc can take over.  And WOW can those feelings be powerful.  But you know when those feelings start to overpower you, you need to immediately go to God.  Give your worries to Him.  Don’t be anxious about anything – just as the bible says.

Some days this is a battle for me, I admit it.  But it’s one I’m bound to win because God wants me to.  So, today, I’m choosing to be happy!  To be soooo happy that when others look at me, they become happy too.  Because God wants His light to shine through us.  Be Happy!
